Peperomia Angulata (Trailing Jade) Care Sheet
Peperomia angulata, also known as Trailing Jade, is a low-maintenance, vining plant perfect for terrariums and indoor spaces. Its compact growth, attractive trailing stems, and tolerance for various conditions make it an excellent choice for plant enthusiasts.
Terrarium Care
🌿 Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight as it can scorch the leaves. Fluorescent or LED grow lights work well in a terrarium setup.
💦 Humidity: Thrives in high humidity (60–90%), making it ideal for closed terrariums. If placed in an open terrarium, mist occasionally to maintain moisture.
🌡️ Temperature: Best kept between 18°C and 28°C. Avoid sudden temperature fluctuations.
💧 Watering: Since terrariums retain moisture, water sparingly. Allow the substrate to dry slightly between waterings to prevent root rot.
🌱 Substrate: Use a well-draining mix, such as sphagnum moss, orchid bark, perlite, and peat. A loose, airy substrate prevents excess moisture retention.
🌬 Ventilation: Ensure proper air circulation in a closed terrarium to prevent fungal issues. Open the lid occasionally to refresh the air.
✂ Pruning: Trim occasionally to maintain shape and prevent overgrowth. Remove any yellowing or damaged leaves.
Indoor Care
🌞 Light: Best in bright, indirect light near an east- or north-facing window. Can tolerate lower light but grows more compact in brighter conditions.
💦 Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity (50–70%), but adapts to average indoor conditions. If the air is too dry, mist lightly or place near a humidifier.
🌡️ Temperature: Ideal range is 18°C to 30°C. Avoid cold drafts or placing near air conditioning vents.
💧 Watering: Water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry. Do not overwater—its semi-succulent leaves store some moisture. Reduce watering in winter.
🌱 Soil: A well-draining potting mix with perlite and orchid bark is best. Avoid dense, moisture-retaining soils.
🏺 Potting: Use a pot with drainage holes to prevent excess water buildup. Hanging pots allow trailing vines to cascade beautifully.
🪴 Fertilizing: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer (diluted to half strength) once a month during the growing season (spring and summer). No need to fertilize in winter.
✂ Pruning: Regular trimming encourages bushier growth. Pinch back long stems if the plant becomes leggy.
🐾 Pet Friendly? ✅ Yes! Peperomia angulata is non-toxic to pets.
Common Issues & Solutions
❌ Yellowing Leaves → Overwatering. Let the soil dry more between waterings.
❌ Leggy Growth → Insufficient light. Move to a brighter spot or provide supplemental lighting.
❌ Droopy Leaves → Either underwatering or excessive heat. Check soil moisture and adjust accordingly.
❌ Mold or Rot in Terrarium → Too much humidity or poor airflow. Open the lid occasionally and improve ventilation.
Peperomia angulata is a fantastic choice for both terrariums and indoor settings due to its resilience and aesthetic appeal. Keep it in the right conditions, and it will reward you with lush, trailing growth! 🌿💚
