Sedum rubrotinctum 'Jelly Bean':

Light: Sedum rubrotinctum 'Jelly Bean' thrives in bright, indirect light. It can tolerate some direct sunlight, especially morning sun, but intense afternoon sun may cause leaf burn.

Watering: Water deeply but infrequently. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings. These succulents are drought-tolerant and prefer being under-watered rather than over-watered. Reduce watering during winter when growth slows down.

Soil: Plant in a well-draining succulent or cactus mix. Ensure the pot has drainage holes to prevent waterlogging, which can lead to root rot.

Temperature and Humidity: Sedum rubrotinctum prefers average room temperatures between 65-75°F (18-24°C). It can tolerate higher temperatures as long as there is adequate airflow. Average indoor humidity is usually suitable; avoid excessively humid conditions.

Fertilizing: Feed lightly with a balanced, diluted fertilizer formulated for succulents during the growing season (spring and summer), about once a month. Avoid fertilizing during fall and winter.

Propagation: Propagate from stem cuttings. Allow cuttings to callus for a few days before planting them in a well-draining succulent mix. Keep the soil lightly moist until roots develop.

Pruning: Trim leggy growth to encourage a more compact shape. Pinch or prune stems to promote branching and denser growth.

Pests and Problems: Watch for common succulent pests such as aphids, mealybugs, or spider mites. Treat infestations promptly with insecticidal soap or rubbing alcohol. Ensure good air circulation around the plant to prevent fungal issues.

Potting and Repotting: Repot every 2-3 years or when the plant outgrows its container. Choose a slightly larger pot with drainage holes to accommodate root growth.

Special Care Notes:

  • Sedum rubrotinctum 'Jelly Bean' is prone to etiolation (stretching) if it doesn't receive enough light. Ensure it gets sufficient bright light to maintain its compact, dense growth habit.
  • Handle the leaves with care as they are delicate and can easily fall off if touched or bumped.

Following these care guidelines will help your Sedum rubrotinctum 'Jelly Bean' thrive and retain its vibrant appearance.
